Ah, the joy of riding a bicycle… the wind in your hair and your cares. For many, riding a bicycle is linked to childhood memories – perhaps your first shiny, red Huffy, or the first time your dad took off your training wheels. Either way, there are few things in life that bring back that feeling of innocence, joy, and freedom as much as two wheels. We quickly forget about that as we’re tailgating someone into downtown, inching on the 10 freeway on four wheels at 8am.
But today, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, in one of the worst traffic cities in the US, we celebrate Bike to Work to Day. Riders from all over this concrete jungle will cycle to work with pit stops available from 7am to 9pm in areas across Los Angeles. But it doesn’t stop there – the LACBC is holding a Handlebar Happy Hour at the Public House from 6pm to 9pm. So, if you’re in the area – pedal on over for some pints and come chat about how you can join LACBC, a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to make all communities in L.A. County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach. If for no other reason, pedal away today for the nostalgia of riding a bike.
Oh! And don’t forget to share your photos with the hashtag #LACBCEverywhere to share your Bike to Work Day story!
