Tapped: Mexican Cola Beer

It may be April 1st, but what’s about to hit our draft towers is no joke. Today we’re tapping the first batch of our What Would You Brew? winner’s Mexican cola-inspired beer.

As you may recall, last fall we ran a contest asking Angelenos if given the opportunity to brew a beer for LA, what would it be and why. After sifting through 279 awesome entries, we narrowed it down to Emily Finch’s Mexican cola-inspired beer. Here is her entry:

L.A. is well known for it’s amazing street tacos & bacon wrapped hot dogs… nothing goes better with those than a cold bottle of Mexican Coke-a-cola!  Super sweet and the perfect accompaniment!  What if we brewed a Mexi Coke Beer????  I’m thinking something similar to a Oud Bruins. Malty, caramel-y, sweet with a little bit of acidity. Probably would have to use cola syrup to get the right flavor and for it to actually ferment correctly.  Give me tasty tacos & Street Supper Ale!

We’re tapping the first keg tonight. Supply is super limited, so grab it before it’s gone. The second iteration is currently aging in rum barrels and will be launched during LA Beer Week.
